(Homage to) Hemingway by Masque Milano is the quintessential vetiver fragrance. Containing both Haitian and Javanese vetiver, this fragrance is green from start to finish (pardon the red backdrop). Patchouli, cedar, and leather only exemplify the fragrance’s bright and earthy nature. To my nose, there is also something slightly gourmand about this, which really makes the experience that much more invigorating. Having read The Old Man and the Sea, a written window seemed the only outlet to experiencing Hemingway’s famed work. Now that I can also put my nose to it, it only makes it that much more real and boundless. It enables me to recreate his experiences not only through written word, but through scent nostalgia. It’s times like this when scent truly becomes intrinsic and transcends time and space.
